Low Tech Timing V23-17
I have seen mud slides chance the course of a race before, but today seemed a bit weird. The organizers decided to take the official time for the stage two point six kilometers before the end of the stage, but the stage honors would be decided at the original finish line. "What?" I hear you ask. I don't understand either, nor did some in the peloton. You can see a woman with a clipboard writing down the time of each rider as they go by (at a full sprint). On the other side is another official filming it with a cell phone, as a back up. Marc Soler (UAE Team Emairates) led Matez Govekar (Bahrain-Victorious) and the leader of the Vuelta, Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) through a few seconds behind those that are consider the main GC rivals. Kuss lost a few seconds to his teammates and Evenepoel, but was equal time with Soler, who is in second overall.
