Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) had gotten into the large break away of the day, and use that to build time on the peloton. As he neared the final kilometers of the mountain top finish, he jumped clear of his erstwhile companions in search of the two guys up the road. With his climbing prowess, he soon got (and dropped) those ahead.
