Lennard Kamna (Bora-Hansgrohe) had dropped his former break away companions one by one on the final assent of the day. By this point he had dropped the last rider and pressed on to to win the stage by over a minute, and another three minutes plus on the GC contenders. He had finished the stage before they reached the adjusted line where the time for the GC was being taken just over two and a half kilometers back done the mountain.
