Passing a Wheel
Bicycle road racing is very much a team sport, from breaking the wind for team mates, carrying water bottles to your fellow riders, or even passing you wheel to the team leader. Here one of Nibali's Astana team mates gives up his wheel and helps put it on with the team leader and Pink Jersey hopeful had a rear flat. You can see the team car pulling up, but this sacrifice saved Nibali at least two minutes, ensuring that he could stay in contact with the peleton. The fans gathered in the town were very excited to see one of their heroes and countrymen so close up. It was a grand reward for standing in the rain for hours.
