Over the Top
Almost every road stage will have some hills or mountains that will award the first rider over them mountain points. These points are higher the steeper, higher or longer the climb is, they are rated 1 for the easiest, 2, 3, 4 and HC for the hardest, if the climb ends the stage the points are even higher. A rider will compete for the over all win, the mountain jersey, the sprinter's jersey or the best young rider jersey. The Giro has some other awards that I will admit I don't quite understand. In this painting the whole town has turned out to watch the Giro crest the climb in their town. This is the peleton being lead by Team Sky followed closely by BMC.
