Going One Two
Team Sky's tactics may not be dramatic, but they certainly proved effective on the top of the Croix de Chabouret. While it was Geraint Thomas who went first, it was Richie Porte who took the victory at the line. As team leader, it was certainly his right, and Thomas didn't contest the victory. Porte was in a delicate position, he couldn't attack and risk bringing Michal Kwiatkowski (Etixx Quickstep) nor TeJay van Garderen (BMC) up to his teammates wheel. Once Kwiatkowski counter Thomas' move, Porte was free to follow and then jump past the current World Champion. Kwiatkowski was able to stay close enough and his third place finish ensure that he would retake the Maillot Jaune instead of the joyous Porte.
