Just How Far Ahead?
With the breakaway of six riders so far up the road, and the chalkboard keeping the peloton informed on the size of the gap, it was up to the teams of the contenders to set about the task of pulling back the nearly 16 minutes the escapees had on the peloton. With Movistar, Garmin Sharp, BMC and Lotto-Belisol having missed the break, it was up to them to put a man each on the front to do the work at hand.
