Lunch Time
It is a constant challenge for a professional cyclist to get enough quality calories into his or her bodies while racing. Every road stage will have a designated area called the Feed Zone where the team Soigneurs hand out musettes filled with water bottles and food in hopes of keeping up the rider's energy levels. During an average stage a rider will burn between four and six thousand calories, so eating is crucial. Fans of the sport will line the roads just after the Feed Zone in hopes of snagging a musette that the riders will toss after they have off loaded the bag into their pockets and mouths. Johan Van Summeren (AG2R) is digging through his bag looking for that extra special treat.
