Contesting the Points
Thomas De Gendt (Lotto Soudal) was a little surprised, and angered, to have his break away companion try and sprint around him on the fifth climb of the stage. Thus far De Gendt had gone first over every proceeding climb and Chris Anker Sorensen (Tinkoff Saxo) had not attempted to get the maximum King of the Mountain points. De Gendt's efforts here put him into the virtual Polka Dot jersey, but he did have some sharp words for Sorensen after the summit.
