After previous riders trying, it looks like Mathieu Burgaudeau (TotalEnergies) attempt was going to stick. Inside of two kilometers to race on the streets of Aubagne the Frenchman on a French team had about ten seconds on the fast closing peloton. It seems unlikely that the sprinters were going to let him stay away this being their last chance to win a stage in this year's Paris Nice.
