Here We Go!
Michael Hepburn (Australia) was the first of the Elite Men to start the Individual Time Trial outside of Richmond, Virginia. The men would be riding a radically different course than any of the previous TT races, starting out at the big theme park up the highway from the city. Hepburn, and every rider to start after him, were looking at a 32.9 mile all out effort to get to the finish to downtown and the final (and most important) time check. Naturally, Hepburn claimed the first lead, but it held up for quite some time which was a bit of a surprise for me.
